MEET THE TEAM

MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE

Ian Loxton – Chair

Russell Mackay – Deputy Chair

Based in Yeppoon, Ian is the Director of Beef Support Services, a project based scientific consultancy business for the Australian beef industry.

Ian is interested in all forms of motoring activities, motorsport and classic cars over a 40 year period, with competition interests and involvement including bitumen rallying, bitumen sprints and hill climbs.

Born and bred in Rockhampton, Russell’s passion for cars started when hewas in primary school. At that time, his dream car was a 1955 4-door Belair Chevy small block. He used to draw cartoon figures, with fire coming out of the exhaust, big fat tyres and a blower protruding out of the bonnet. Who knew this was only the beginning of 30-odd year passion for anything fast and loud.

In his early teen years to late twenties Russell chopped and altered an excessive number of vehicles, learning and teaching himself all the mechanical and panel beating skills needed.

The American Muscle started to grow on him, and he bought, panel beat, painted and sold three Corvettes. After a 10 – 15 year span of making the Muscle Cars look their best, the next progression in his life was to start racing.

Besides the usual – Motor X, Induros, and trial bike riding – Russell started Sprint Car racing then progressed to his current sport, Drag Racing. Russell’s 1963 Split Back Window Corvette, which covers the ¼ Mile in 6.5 seconds, with a speed 219 MPH or 352 KPH pass, has raced in the ever popular division of Supercharged OutLaws, driving to as far north as Cairns and south to Sydney competing in the Rocket All Stars Series.

Russell proudly owns a collection of American Muscle Cars which consists of two 1957 BelAir 2 Door Big Block Chev, a 1966 Cadillac 4 door, a 1969 Z28 Camaro, a 1971 Stingray Corvette, a 1971 Step Side Chevy pick up Big block fully blown fitted with airbags, a 2002 C5 Corvette and a original Orange County Chopper.

Over past 19 years, Russell has owned a Central Queensland glazing company and operates a glass processing plant.

Russell’s passion is to bring motor sports and enthusiasts to the Central Queensland area to show off the region’s amazing vehicles and facilities.
